Headaches
Headaches are a sign of an imbalance in the spine, toxicity overload, hormonal shifts and overuse to just name a few. At Florida Spine and Wellness Institute, we take the time to determine the cause of the headache and the goal is to identify the trigger and remove it. It is important to receive a complete evaluation to determine if the headaches are due to structural imbalances from the spine, hormonal imbalances, chemical toxicity or a combination of the above. Headaches always form under a level of stress and because we usually are unable to escape stressful situations, we have to turn our attention to strengthening the body to minimize the severe effects of headaches.
Tension Headaches
These are the most common type, affecting around 75% of sufferers. They occur due to the misalignment of the spine, which alters nerve function and ultimately causes the muscles to become spastic. Some people may have tight shoulders, others may have neck pain, while others suffer with headaches. The only true determination is to have a complete Chiropractic examination, including x-rays, to determine the strength of the spine and nervous system. The trained Chiropractor is able to utilize all of the important information to address the cause of the headache and help strengthen the body to be rid of them.
Migraine Headaches & Cluster Headaches
Around 25 million people a year in the U.S. experience migraine headaches, 75% of whom are women. Around 1 million people a year in the U.S. experience cluster headaches, and they are primarily men. Regardless of the headache, FSWI examines diet patterns and discuss eliminating the most predominant foods, which trigger headaches. If you suffer with these headaches, it is important to bring a 3-Day diet diary of all foods and liquid consumed. This information is another important key in determining the cause of the various headaches.
FSWI will examine and determine the correct treatment protocol to help identify and eliminate headaches.
Chiropractic Adjustments
Chiropractic adjustments have been shown in many research studies to be very effective at treating tension headaches, especially those that stem from the neck. A 2001 report by researchers at the Duke University Evidence-Based Practice Center in Durham, NC, found that chiropractic manipulation provided almost immediate improvement, with far fewer side effects and more long-lasting relief than prescription medications. Another study found that just four weeks of chiropractic treatment was enough to provide a sustained benefit that far outweighed anything delivered by pain medication.
